Structural Bench
The inspiration behind the Structural Bench originated from a designer's visit to the Grand Hotel, where an understanding of the hotel's history, culture, and architectural structures sparked the creation of this bench. The most intriguing feature of traditional Chinese architecture is the structure of the roof, crafted with intricate woodwork that serves both decorative and supportive functions.
The hotel is situated on the former site of a Shinto shrine, a significant religious facility during that era. The Structural Bench blends Chinese and Japanese design elements, reimagining them to form a refined piece that harmonizes different cultural inspirations. Utilizing Taiwan's native materials, the bench is primarily made from Taiwan Cypress, echoing the design concept. The unique wood grain patterns and colors of the Taiwan Cypress imbue the bench with a rich narrative, making it a furniture piece full of stories.
